To post a link, there are a few possible methods:
(This assumes you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4 or higher)
Type in the link. This can be done using the entire URL or part of it. For example: http://www.ripper1.com/ or www.ripper1.com Both of these will add the link. (You do not have to add the final slash in the URL). You must have at least one space before and after the link (or start the link at the beginning of a line) and you must either hit the space bar or enter at the end of the link for it to be an active link. You'll see it change to an active link as you finish typing it. If you make a mistake, the backspace key can be used to fix the link.
Copy and paste the link into the text box. Highlight the link in the address bar by simply clicking once on it. Then copy it by hitting CTRL-C (hold the CTRL key down and hit the C key while holding the CTRL key). (Newer versions of IE allow you to right click on the address and hit "Copy"). Then go to your post and inside the text area (not the subject area) click the mouse to get a cursor in there, then hit CTRL-V to paste in the link (or you can right-click the mouse in the text area and hit "Paste". Make sure you add the space or enter at the end and also make sure you had a space or start of a line where you pasted it. The biggest problem I see on the boards is when people want to add a link and it looks like this: Look at my bikehttp://www.mybike.com/mypic.jpg instead of this: Look at my bike http://www.mybike.com/mypic.jpg
Drag and drop the URL (this may not work in IE 4, but it works in IE 5 and up). Have the link you want to post open. Have a post already open and ready for the link in another browser window. Go to the link to be posted, click and hold on the little icon in front of the URL (the address in the window). Drag it down to the task bar (the boxes showing open programs or browser windows next to the "Start" button), do not let go of the mouse button, drag it onto the box for the window where your post will be, when the window opens, drag the link up to the text area and finally let go of the mouse button (this method takes a bit of practice but once you get the idea it's like riding a tricycle). Same thing applies to this method. Don't drag and drop it at the end of another line or right in front of text. ***Note, this may or may not work in Windows XP or with tabbed browsing enabled.
Posting a link on a Disc Server forum
All of the above applies with the exception that you MUST add HTML code to activate the link. For example, the link to my site must look like this:
The part between the quotes MUST BE the actual URL of your link or picture. <a href="http://www.ripper1.com/">http://www.ripper1.com</a>
The part after "> and before </a> can be any text: <a href="http://www.ripper1.com/">Click here for my home page</a>
>Or even a picture:<a href="http://www.ripper1.com/"> <img src="http://www.ripper1.com/images/banners/ripper1.gif"></a>
