First, the entire part was sanded with a die grinder with 24, 36 and then 60 grit. It was pretty rough. |

Then it was sanded in stages from 80 to 100 to 180 to 220 to 320 on a dual action sander, then wet-sanded with 400, 600, 900, 1000 and then 1500 (the fittings were left in at times to keep the threads from getting gummed up with compound, among other things). |

|
The next step is black aluminum compound on a stiff buffer wheel, then a custom blended mix of metal polishing compounds on a loose wheel. It was hard to get a good picture. The marks you see in these pictures were not there, except in the camera. In person, this cam cover looked perfect. |
