Here is a 2004 Viper hood - (actually, it's a 2008 hood going on a 2004 Viper). Here is the completed hood: I hope to have some pictures of this hood mounted on the car soon. The customer stored his car for the winter and hopes to mount the hood as soon as all the snow finally melts.... |
Here is the work in progress:Here is the hood wetsanded and prepped for airbrush work. These flames are done a bit differently than normal, since the hood is red. I eliminated the red flame stage and started with orange instead. Red would have made the flames darker than the background, and that just wouldn't be right. This layer was fogged with a light coat of candy orange to melt in the flames, giving the flame job a bit more depth. Notice, I taped off the area ahead of the hood scoop. This was to avoid overspray and make it look like the flames were coming out of the scoop. Next, bright yellow is added. Then candy gold is sprayed over the yellow, to melt that in as well. I also painted some licks in candy gold over just the red. It won't really show in pictures, it just looks wet, but it will add depth to the flames once they are cleared over. Another layer of bright yellow is added, for more depth. Another trick is to use white, then candy gold. It makes the flames really pop. Here, I added a ghost skull in the flames. The trick to that is to not over-paint. Less is more here.... |
