Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What kind of turnaround time do you have for custom work?
A: Custom work is very hard to estimate as far as time is considered. Everything I do is done by hand, and I work, for the most part, alone. Every job is different. You can get a rough estimate, but we cannot and will not guarantee that your vehicle will be done on or before any specific date, there are too many variables involved.
Q: What kind of warranty do you have?
A: Paint work is warranteed for the life of the vehicle or part. If it ever fails, it will be repaired at no cost. Paint work is covered by the PPG Paint Performance Guarantee. The Guarantee covers the areas of your vehicle which are finished beginning the day the vehicle is delivered back to you. This warranty does not include abuse, misuse or normal road wear (We can't make a part last longer than it can, in other words). Shipping is not covered in any direction. You must pay for shipping back and forth for the repairs to be completed. Only ship the part AFTER contacting us and sending photos of the problem area.
Q: What type of equipment do you use?
A: For welding we have a 220 volt 200 amp Lincoln Mig Welder, a Miller tig welder, and 2 torch setups. These welders/torches have built everything from custom choppers to computer cases, 300MPH dragster frames to some metal art, plus repaired aluminum wheels and other parts. We have a small English Wheel, a Sheet Metal Brake and other metal-working tools. We have a drill press, bench grinder, bench and remote polishing wheels and more. We have a full powdercoating booth and heavy duty metal polishing equipment. We have hydraulic presses for bearings, etc... and a hydraulic pipe and tubing bender for frames and other tube work as well as a drill-press operated tubing notcher. We also have 2 motorcycle lifts, several car and motorcycle jacks as well as many hand, electric and air powered tools, etc. We also have a complete wood shop including band saws, table routers, jointer/planer, lathes and more. For paint, we have a heated downdraft spray booth. We have several Gravity Feed HVLP spray guns. They each have a purpose. One is for flake, one is for pearl and metallic paint, one is for solid colors and one is for clear, etc..... We also have several touch-up guns as well as 3 or 4 Binks #7 and #18 siphon feed guns which are used for primer and special situations. For airbrushing, I personally have several Iwata Eclipse Airbrushes, several more Badger 150 Airbrushes, a Badger Crescendo, a Paasche VL, a Badger 200 single action for backgrounds, an Iwata HP-BC and a Badger 100LG gravity feed for extreme detail work. For wheel repairs, we have a hydraulic wheel straightener, a 2 axis lathe that cust wheel faces, plus a road force wheel balancer and 2 rim clamp tire changers. There is most likely stuff I have missed. Call the shop to find out if there are tools or equipment available that are not mentioned here.
Q: What happens if I refuse to pay, for any reason?
A: Failure to pay will result in one of the following: Work will stop on your vehicle until you can pay what is owed, we will begin mechanic's lien proceedings and your vehicle will be sold at auction, or if work has not been started or no payment is due unless we go forward, I will ask that you remove your vehicle immediately or pay for storage charges. We have rarely had to do anything regarding this, but it has happened. Island Customs is not a place to store your car while you decide whether or not you want to finish it.
Q: How do you ship parts?
A: Parts are carefully packaged then shipped through USPS Priority Mail, UPS or by freight truck (if they are heavier than 75lbs) and insured for full value. The customer is responsible for paying the full charges including insurance, which is required or we will not ship. Any claims for damage must be made immediately through the shipping company (all packing materials must be saved for inspection, there are no exceptions). We are not responsible for parts damaged in shipping, at any time, ever.
Q: What if a part is damaged in shipping?
A: Save all packing materials. You must contact both the shop and the shipping company immediately. We need to alert the shipping company as soon as possible. The exception may be the freight trucking company, where you may need to refuse the shipment if anything is visibly damaged. If this is not done, they will not honor the claim and Island Customs will not be responsible for any losses you may incur. Once the claim is settled, you can ship the part back for repair. Shipping charges are not covered in any direction, believe it or not (even though they damaged the part, you still have to pay for all of the shipping, and we certainly are not responsible for it). The same procedure applies to new, custom or used parts as far as shipping damage.
Q: What kind of warranty do you have on any used parts?
A: No warranty is given or implied for any used part purchased from this website for any reason. The parts are as advertised and we will sell nothing intentionally that does not live up to it's billing. There are possible oversights though. If we sell you a working part and it does not work upon arrival, contact us and we'll work something out with a refund or exchange, if an exchange is available. If the part is not what you thought it was or you didn't know it wouldn't fit your vehicle, we are not responsible. You should know what vehicle you own and whether or not parts you are buying will fit on it. No refunds are given until the part is returned and proven to be defective, not damaged after it was shipped or during shipping. If you return a part that was damaged in shipping to you without making a claim through the shipping company, you are out of luck. Shipping charges are not covered on any return or replacement part, for any reason, ever. There are no exceptions.
Q: Where can I get answers that are not covered on this page?

FIGHT CISPA

CISPA is a bill that would allow the government to track your internet use without probable cause or a warrant. Congress passed it while everyone was distracted by the recent events in Boston and Texas.
